How to Write Blog Posts That Rank on Google and Get Cited by AI

A step-by-step method for writing helpful, SEO-friendly blog posts: choosing topics, structuring content, internal linking and updating over time.

A blog is one of the best ways for a small business to be found online — but only if posts are written for real people and structured for search engines.

1. Pick a topic people search for

Choose one clear question per post, based on keyword research or customer questions. "How much does a website cost in India?" beats "Thoughts on websites".

2. Answer first

Give the direct answer in the first two or three sentences. Readers, Google featured snippets and AI assistants all reward this.

3. Structure with headings

Use H2 headings for main sections and keep paragraphs short. Bullet lists and numbered steps make content skimmable and easy to quote.

4. Add real experience

Include examples, numbers, screenshots, mistakes and lessons from your own work. This is what separates helpful content from generic text.

5. Optimise the basics

  • Keyword in the title, URL and first paragraph
  • A compelling meta description under about 155 characters
  • Descriptive alt text for images
  • Natural language — never stuff keywords

Link to your related articles and to the service page the reader might need next. Internal links help search engines understand your site and keep visitors reading.

7. End with a next step

Tell readers what to do: request a quote, read a related guide or contact you.

8. Update regularly

Refresh posts when prices, tools or facts change. Updated, accurate content keeps its rankings longer.

Summary

Helpful, specific, well-structured posts that answer one question clearly are what rank — on Google and in AI search.
